Julie Scott is Assistant Professor of Music Education at Southern Methodist University. She earned a Ph.D. from Eastman School of Music in 2010, where she was Assistant Professor of Music Education for one year. A certified Orff Schulwerk instructor and teacher educator, Dr. Scott is immediate past president of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. Currently, she serves as director of the Lewisville ISD 5^th Grade Honor Choir, which was selected as one of the elementary choirs to perform at the Texas Music Educators Conference in 2004 and again for the 2012 conference.

 

Dr. Scott taught elementary music in Texas schools for 17 years and has been a director of children’s choirs in both school and church settings for 30 years. Her choirs have been featured on two recordings for Choristers Guild, and she is the author of the Early Childhood Year 3 Stepping Stones children’s choir curriculum, which is published by Choristers Guild.  In addition, Dr. Scott was a Contributing Author for the 2007 Pearson/Silver Burdett textbook series, Making Music.

 

Julie Scott is Director of Summer Music Educators Workshops at SMU, and she served as Director of the Center for Contemporary Studies in Music Education at the University of North Texas for nine years (2001-2010). She has taught summer Orff Schulwerk courses to adults at seven universities. She has presented workshops for MENC, AOSA, OAKE, and to numerous state MEAs, school districts and Orff chapters throughout the US.  Dr. Scott has presented sessions internationally at conferences in China (ISME), Italy (ISME), Thailand (CMS), and Australia (IKS).

 

Dr. Scott’s research interests include Orff Schulwerk, children’s pitch-matching ability, and vocal modeling for children. She has published articles in The Orff Echo, General Music Today, and Southwestern Musician.
